A veil of spooky autumn magic settles over Frilandsmuseet as we celebrate Halloween during the autumn holidays. Nordic folklore is full of dangerous creatures and you may just be unlucky enough to encounter some of them.
Young and old can arm themselves with troll crosses, amulets, pumpkin lanterns, and other superstitious charms to keep the eerie creatures from taking over both town and mind. We bring old folklore and autumn traditions to life, with plenty of room for both shivers and smiles.
Race on your very own handmade witches’ broomsticks, dip candles to brighten the dark evenings, or carve pumpkins. And if things get a little too spooky, you can make an amulet to ward off evil spirits.

Troll Theater
Enjoy family theatre every day during the autumn break
Three times a day, you can take a seat in the courtyard and enjoy a troll-themed theatrical performance. Drawing on old Danish eyewitness accounts of trolls, these legendary creatures are brought to life in a lively play. The performance is cute and fun, making it suitable for the whole family, big and small alike. It lasts no more than 20 minutes.
Creative workshops
Hands-on activities for children.
Make your own broom and fly on the witch’s flying course, create a protective amulet and witch’s cross, and learn about the methods people used in the old days to protect themselves from everything dangerous and supernatural. You can also shape your own lollipop like a ghost or perhaps a pumpkin.
Spooky pumpkins and magical lights
In the Freddy Frogface Village, a pumpkin workshop, a spooky maze, a frightening duck pond, and a visit to the blacksmith awaits. With their fire and air of mystery, the blacksmith was once associated with dark magic. You can also color your own candles to light at home on dark autumn evenings.

Every day, Joey the Clown is ready with his mischievous magic and spooky tricks. Joey puts on a frightfully good magic show that will make the whole family shiver and laugh. The show takes place by the Big Top in Frøsnapperbyen.

Join us for a family tour
Have you ever heard of the huldra? What about elves, witches, and trolls? Join our family tour, where one of our museum hosts will tell you about magical creatures and how to protect yourself from them. The tour starts at Forten, no. 69 on the map.
Try the witch's flight path
Grab a broomstick and take off on the witch's flying course, made of large straw bales where you can jump, run and play.

Is Halloween at the Open Air Museum for children?
Yes! Halloween is designed for families with children of all ages. There’s plenty of room for both scares and laughter and if it all gets a little too spooky, you can make an amulet to protect you from evil spirits, among other things.Is it very scary?
Just the right amount of spooky. We draw inspiration from the trolls, witches, huldras, and other magical creatures of Nordic folklore, but the experiences are designed with small children and families in mind. The troll theater, for example, is cozy and fun for all ages.Are the activities included in the admission ticket?
Much of the entertainment, such as theater performances and magic show, is included in the admission price, but to take part in all the activities and workshops, you will need to use punches on an activity card or pay for each activity individually.Is admission free for children?
Yes. Children and young people under the age of 18 have free admission to the Open Air Museum. Adults can get a 10% discount by purchasing their admission ticket online.Do you need to buy a ticket in advance?
